Everyone can go to their pharmacy for advice on medication for minor illness, however the NHS Minor Ailment Scheme has been introduced as a service for patients who don’t pay prescription charges (excluding prepayment certificate holders) and are registered with a GP surgery in Scotland.
Under this scheme the patient can consult their pharmacist and receive appropriate minor illness medication with no charge.
Your consultation will be with the community pharmacist, but no appointment is necessary. If your pharmacist feels that it is better for you to see your GP, they will advise you appropriately.
